Hey ABC Family: what’s up with the fat-negative ad campaign?

I walk past your ads every day on my way to work, and this week they changed from promoting Pretty Little Liars (which is clearly a travesty upon which I don’t need to comment) to this show Huge. I was intrigued and so I did a picosecond of Googling and discovered that it’s a about girls at a fat camp, starring Nikki Blonsky as a brassy no-nonsense girl, there against her will, who has no intention of losing weight.

Wait, what?

Why the Hell is she standing on the dock looking all lonesome and embarassed? Nikki Blonsky is a beautiful and healthy woman, best known for playing a fat girl who’s confident in her appearance. And now she’s in a new series playing a fat girl who’s confident in her appearance. So why on earth is she being portrayed in this way?

Did someone decide that the only way she could appear on your posters in a bathing suit was if she looked ashamed about it? I think maybe they did. And that’s not cool.
